About Czech

Czech is spoken by around 10 million people, largely in the Czech Republic. The language used to be called Bohemian. It is related to Polish, with roots common to Slavic and various Romance and Germanic languages.

There have been several famous Czech composers, among them Dvorak, Smetana, and Janacek. Bolzano is remembered as a mathematician and philosopher.

Czech is a highly inflected language, with ending changing to reflect person, tense, and mood. However, the basic phrases given here should allow you to make a start at communicating. As Czech is not a well-known language, any locals will be very happy if you give things a go!
